Kalanamak (BUDDHA RICE) GI Tagged rice is a scented, non-basmati rice variety with a distinct aroma and nutty flavor, primarily grown in the Tarai region of Uttar Pradesh, India. Also known as “Buddha rice,” it is named for its black husk (‘kala’ means black and ‘namak’ means salt). The rice is considered diabetic-friendly due to its low glycemic index (GI) and is rich in protein, fiber, iron, and antioxidants.
